Why seek therapy?

  • Trauma comes in many forms, from a life-changing accident, injury, abuse, dysfunctional childhood, sexual assault, act of violence, natural disaster, and more. Many times trauma is experienced as heightened emotional reactions that you don’t understand or fears that seem way out of proportion. You may have nightmares, flashbacks, or difficulty in your personal relationships and work relationships. You might find yourself using substances or checking out just to get through the day.

I help individuals learn to manage current symptoms and then we work on getting to the root of the trauma, heal from it, and get back to living a happy, purposeful life. I am trained in EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and other methods to help resolve past trauma. Therapy can help you make sense of your past and grieve what you have lost. Therapy can help you feel more stable, happier, and ultimately move past what has caused you to struggle and live a life you enjoy.

  • It is hard to not be anxious these days! Life itself is difficult. You might struggle with some level of worry, fear, and just feeling on edge and tense and not knowing why. You feel overwhelmed and like your life is out of control. You may constantly worry and overfunction to do everything you can do to control your life.

I can help you understand why you are anxious and develop tools to help manage anxiety. We can also get to the root of your anxiety and determine whether there are changes you can make to help reduce anxiety-provoking situations in your life.

I can also help you face situations that cause anxiety in a safe and measured way so that your anxiety can ultimately be reduced in difficult situations.

  • Most of our happiness in life boils down to the quality of our relationships. Quality relationships, from early childhood throughout adulthood, are the number one predictor of individual happiness. If there are challenges in those relationships or if our relationships are not happy and mutually-fulfilling, this can lead to problems.

You might have a difficult relationship with your partner or your family. You might have challenges finding friends or a partner. You might have difficulty maintaining relationships. You might be a people-pleaser and give up what you love for the sake of those you care about, or so you don’t lose relationships with others.

Therapy can help you understand your relationship dynamics. It can help you understand what good relationships look like and how to develop quality relationships in your own life, through learning communication skills, boundaries, and assertiveness. It can help you overcome social anxiety so you can have happy, fulfilling relationships. It can help you identify your own barriers that get in the way of quality romantic relationships and friendships and heal from past relationships.

  • You have experienced the loss of a loved one, or loss of your job, identity, or health. You may have gone through a breakup or a divorce. You feel stuck, sad, and overwhelmed with life. This could be a recent loss or a loss that has happened long ago that you still don’t know how to make sense of.

Therapy can help you process your emotions around the loss, which is vital to helping you integrate the loss into a full life that you live today.

  • Dealing with chronic illness and chronic pain can rob your life of joy and meaning. You might feel useless, like you don’t have a purpose. You might grieve the person you used to be and feel anxious about your health moving forward. You might feel more anxious than you used to be—you might fear going out in public or fear a flare-up or worsening health.

Therapy can help you cope with and manage the emotional effects of the symptoms you struggle with on a daily basis. We can also work to develop purpose and meaning in your life moving forward.

  • You might feel like you have met your goals but don’t know what to do next. You are supposed to feel happy, right? But for some reason you just don’t.

You might want your life to look different than it does now. You want to reach a certain goal but can’t quite muster the motivation or confidence to take steps to achieve it.

Therapy can help you figure out what is holding you back. It can help you understand why you feel stuck and unhappy. We can work together to uncover the root causes and make positve changes in your mindset and create a plan to make real changes in your life.

How Therapy and Counseling can Help

You are ready to show up for yourself. I work with individuals who are motivated to make a change in their lives or understand more about themselves and who they are.

I believe in growth and promoting your wellbeing. I believe that people underestimate their ability to change. It's possible to change. It's possible to enjoy life again.

Sessions will provide you with a safe and comfortable space to gain clarity and explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals.

I provide a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to counseling. Our sessions are tailored to your specific needs and concerns.

In our first few sessions, we will get to know each other and develop a plan for what you would like to work on. Then, we will work together to achieve your goals and improve your life. I utilize tools and techniques such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness and Relaxation, and more to help you. Most importantly, I strive to create a safe and trusting relationship with you where you feel comfortable to be who you are.

Why choose online therapy?

Telehealth therapy can be done from the comfort of your own home, or from your office at work, lessening driving time, making it a convenient choice for many people. It is also a great benefit for those living in rural areas where there may not be available in-person therapists, and it is a benefit for those with chronic health conditions that make travel difficult.

Studies show telehealth therapy is just as effective as in person therapy in treating anxiety, depression, and PTSD. It is important that you have a private area where you can conduct your telehealth sessions. I conduct my appoitments via video calls, and you can use your phone, tablet, or laptop.
